GORUCK Ruck Plates: Standard and Curved, Explained
My GORUCK Standard 10, 20 and 30 lb plates and Curved vest pairs: what the weight labels mean, which carrier they fit, and the current cost.

The first choice with a GORUCK plate is its shape. I've got the Standard 10, 20 and 30 lb plates, plus two sets of Curved plates for the Rucking Weight Vest. They're two different systems, even when the completed setup weighs the same amount.
This rundown separates the sizes, quantities and compatible carriers in my owned lineup. Start with the carrier format, then choose the weight.

Standard plates: one weight for a backpack
GORUCK sells each Standard plate individually. Its current listing gives all three the same 9 × 11.5-inch footprint; the heavier plates get thicker. The exact Standard variant matters: GORUCK also sells a 30 lb Long plate with a different footprint. GORUCK Standard and Long specifications.
| Standard plate | Listed thickness | US price band |
|---|---|---|
| 10 lb | 0.52 in | $50-150 |
| 20 lb | 0.84 in | $50-150 |
| 30 lb | 1.38 in | $50-150 |
That makes the 10, 20 and 30 lb Standard plates the relevant choices for a Basic Rucker or a Standard Ruck Plate Carrier 3.0. GORUCK lists both for this plate format. A shared footprint answers the sizing question; the pocket closure still has to hold the plate properly. Basic Rucker compatibility, RPC compatibility.

Curved plates: two weights and the vest
My Curved sets are the 9.25 lb each and 14.25 lb each versions. There are two plates in a set, one for the front and one for the back. The empty Rucking Weight Vest adds a listed 1.5 lb. Here's the arithmetic:
| My Curved set | Plates alone | Total with the vest | US pair price band |
|---|---|---|---|
| Two 9.25 lb plates | 18.5 lb | 20 lb | $50-150 |
| Two 14.25 lb plates | 28.5 lb | 30 lb | $50-150 |
The 14.25 lb pair was unavailable in GORUCK's October 4 stock check. A lighter pair is also listed: two 6.25 lb plates make a 14 lb setup with the vest. These are the manufacturer weights for the identified variants, rather than new scale measurements. Curved plate options, empty vest weight.
The center opening is the obvious visual difference. GORUCK says the shape is intended to leave room for chest expansion; breathing and pressure under sustained load are still questions for my later testing. Its listing specifies the Curved plates for the Rucking Weight Vest only. They aren't a substitute for a Standard backpack plate. GORUCK's design and compatibility notes.
Choose the carrier before the load
For a Basic Rucker or Standard RPC, start with Standard. For the Rucking Weight Vest, price a Curved pair plus the vest. The Achilles has its weight built in, so it doesn't need either purchase.
If you're comparing other brands, my ruck plate buying guide separates dimensions and quantities across the options. Match the intended pocket first, then choose the load. A familiar brand name won't rescue the wrong shape.
