A flat, rectangular steel weight (typically 10-45 lbs) designed to slot into the back panel of a rucksack. Sits flat against the spine for ergonomic load distribution, unlike round Olympic plates which would shift and bruise.
Ruck plates are the cleanest way to scale ruck weight precisely. Common increments are 10/20/30/45 lb. Most ruck-rated packs (GORUCK GR1, 5.11 RUSH) have a dedicated plate sleeve in the back panel; generic backpacks need the plate wrapped in a towel and placed against the back to stop it from shifting.
