Why this kit

Check your headlamp battery, reflective belt, and plate fit before the event. Cadre will inspect every item on the published packing list, and missing items can mean burpees or going home.

This loadout combines the published GORUCK event packing list with socks, foot care, and other items useful during a long event. Check the list and email for your specific event before packing because requirements can change.

Bring two pairs of socks so you can change if the first pair gets wet. Apply Leukotape before the event to protect known hot spots. Pack the required reflective gear, and charge the Petzl Actik Core before you leave.

The published list uses a 30 lb weight for participants who weigh 150 lb or more and 20 lb for those who weigh less. Check your event's current requirement before buying. Color-coded GORUCK plates make the weight easy to confirm during inspection, and the current GORUCK Rucker 5.0 has elevated pockets built for those plates.

This loadout is more than you need for a Basic event under five hours or a five-mile neighborhood training ruck. Star Course navigation events use a different gear list and no plate.

Questions

Will I pass cadre inspection with this kit?+
This kit covers common items from the published list, but it cannot guarantee that you will pass inspection. Requirements vary by event, so check the current list and your event email before you pack.
What weight plate should I bring?+
The published list uses 30 lb if you weigh 150 lb or more and 20 lb if you weigh less. Some events publish different requirements, so check the current list and your event email before buying a plate.
Why two pairs of socks?+
The first pair may get soaked in a water feature or after several hours of sweat. A dry pair lets you change when the event schedule allows. Pack it in a zip-top bag.
Is the reflective glow belt required?+
Reflective gear appears on the published event list for road movement. Check your event email for the current requirement and any event-specific items.
Can I swap the GORUCK Rucker for a 5.11 Rush 24?+
The Rush 24 is not built around GORUCK plates, so the plate may not sit as securely as it does in the Rucker's elevated plate pocket. If you use another pack, confirm that the required weight fits securely and meets the current event rules.
